Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Marinage collects, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and the rights you have. It is written to meet the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Marinage (www.marinage.in) is run by Raunak Biswas, under the registered business name Marinage Industries, of 3rd Floor, Sree Durga Apartment, Andul Mouri Rd, Pirtala, Andul Mauri, Duillya, Howrah, West Bengal 711302, India, on behalf of the Marinage business. Marinage is being registered as a limited liability partnership (LLP). Until then, he is responsible for your personal data (the "Data Fiduciary"). In this policy "we", "us" and "our" mean Marinage and, until the LLP is formed, Raunak Biswas acting for it.

Contact: contact@marinage.in, +91 82740 12419.

When the LLP is formed, your data will move to it, which will then be responsible for it under this policy. We will tell registered users by email before that happens.

2. What we collect

When you create and use an account

  • Name, email address and phone number.
  • If you sign in with Google: your name, email address and Google account ID.
  • Your sign-in activity, needed to keep your account secure.

When you verify your phone

  • Your phone number and the WhatsApp message you send us with the code.

When you verify your identity

  • Customers: your PAN and a proof of address.
  • Owners: also your GST number and the other business documents the Platform asks for.
  • Our decision and notes on your verification.

When you list a boat

  • The boat's details, photos, prices, location and schedule.
  • The boat's papers (for example registration, insurance, licences, survey certificates).

When you message another member

  • The messages you send and receive, and when they were sent and read.

When you send a Dream Boat request

  • The boat you describe, your budget, location, timeline, any reference photos, the phone number to call you on, and your preferred contact channel and time.

When you buy a plan, credits or a featured listing

  • What you bought, the amount, and the payment reference and status from Razorpay. Your card, UPI or bank details are entered on Razorpay's page; we never see or store them.

When you join the affiliate program

  • Your display name and where you plan to share, your links and the clicks and sign-ups they bring.
  • Your payout details if you choose to add them: UPI ID or bank account name, number and IFSC, and PAN.

When you visit the website

  • A random visitor ID stored in a cookie, used to count visits and to link an affiliate click to a later sign-up.
  • When you open an affiliate link: the time, the website you came from, your browser type, and a one-way hashed (scrambled) form of your IP address. We do not store the IP address itself.
  • Your approximate region and city, worked out by our network provider (Cloudflare) from your connection, so Owners can see where interest in their boats comes from. Owners see totals, never individual visitors.
  • Pages viewed and clicks on "Message the owner" and similar buttons, counted for Owners' statistics.
  • If you accept analytics cookies: Google Analytics data on how the site is used.

Sensitive data. Bank account details and PAN are treated as sensitive personal data. We collect them only for the purpose stated, with your consent, and protect them as described in section 8.

3. Why we use it

  • To run your account and let you sign in.
  • To verify members and boats, and to show Owners that a customer is verified.
  • To publish Listings and to let members message each other.
  • To provide and account for Paid Services, and handle receipts and refunds.
  • To run the affiliate program, including counting clicks and sign-ups and, once earnings start, paying commission and deducting tax.
  • To act on Dream Boat requests: only our team reads them; Owners do not.
  • To send you notices about your account, messages, Listings and purchases, by email or on the site.
  • To keep the Platform safe: preventing fraud, spam and abuse, and investigating reports.
  • To understand and improve the Platform, using counts and, with your consent, Google Analytics.
  • To meet legal duties: tax and accounting records, responding to lawful requests from authorities.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use it for advertising by others.

4. Our legal basis

We use your data with your consent, which you give when you create an account, submit a form or accept analytics cookies, and for the legitimate uses the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 allows, such as meeting a legal duty or a service you asked for. You may withdraw consent at any time (see section 9). Withdrawing does not affect what was done before, and some features stop working without the data they need.

5. What other members see

  • Everyone sees your Listings: boat details, photos, prices and approximate location. For boats for sale, the exact location and registration number are hidden.
  • For a boat's papers we show only that a paper was checked and its dates. The documents themselves are never shown.
  • Owners do not have contact details shown on their Listings. A Customer reaches an Owner through Marinage messaging.
  • The member you message sees your name, what you write, and whether you are a verified customer.
  • Owners see totals of views and clicks on their boats, and the region and city those come from, never who you are.
  • Affiliates see counts of clicks and sign-ups, and the name of a person who signed up through their link. They never see your contact details.

6. Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers we need to run the Platform, only for that purpose, and under their own security and privacy commitments:

  • Razorpay: payment processing.
  • Resend: sending email.
  • Meta (WhatsApp): phone verification.
  • Google: Google sign-in, and Google Analytics if you accept analytics cookies.
  • Cloudflare: network delivery, security, file storage (photos and documents) and approximate location.
  • Map services (OpenStreetMap and, for address search, MapmyIndia/Mappls): to show maps and find places you type.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): hosting the website and database.

We also disclose data when the law requires it, for example to a government agency or court with lawful authority, or to protect the safety of a person.

Some of these providers store data outside India. We transfer data only to countries the Government of India has not restricted.

7. How long we keep it

  • Account and profile data: while your account is open, and up to 90 days after you close it, then deleted or anonymised.
  • Verification documents: while your account is open, then deleted within 90 days of closing it, unless a dispute or legal duty needs them longer.
  • Listings and boat papers: while the Listing exists, and up to 90 days after it is removed.
  • Messages: while either member's account is open, because both sides keep a copy of the conversation.
  • Payment and tax records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires (currently up to 8 years).
  • Affiliate click records: up to 2 years.
  • Dream Boat requests: up to 2 years after we last acted on them.

8. How we protect it

We use reasonable security practices: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access to personal data limited to the members of the Marinage team who need it for their work, under a duty of confidentiality, with verification documents and payout details restricted further, private storage for documents, and sign-in cookies that scripts cannot read. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

9. Your rights

You can:

  • See the personal data we hold about you and how it is used.
  • Correct or update it. Most of it you can change yourself under Account settings.
  • Erase it, by closing your account. Some data is kept as section 7 explains.
  • Withdraw consent for any use based on consent.
  • Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to.
  • Complain to our Grievance Officer, and if you are not satisfied, to the Data Protection Board of India.

To use any of these rights, write to contact@marinage.in from the email address on your account. We reply within 30 days.

10. Cookies and similar storage

  • Sign-in cookie (essential): keeps you signed in for up to 7 days. Scripts on the page cannot read it.
  • Visitor ID cookie (essential to the affiliate program and visit counts): a random ID kept for up to 365 days.
  • Google Analytics cookies (optional): set only if you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change your choice by clearing the site's cookies.
  • Your browser's storage: forms you have started (for example a Listing or a message) are kept in your browser so you do not lose them on a reload. This stays on your device.

11. Children

The Platform is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect children's personal data. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
